Rock Varnish Record of Late Pleistocene Wet Events, Western USA

Figure Caption    Late Pleistocene varnish climate record from the western US drylands and its possible correlation with Greenland's GISP2 ice core record (Grootes et al., 1993). The GISP2 time scale is from Meese et al. (1994) and Bender et al. (1994). LU = Layering Unit, WP = Wet event in Pleistocene, YD = Younger Dryas, MIS = Marine Isotope Stage.

Rock Varnish Record of Holocene Wet Events, Western USA

Figure Caption    Holocene varnish climate record from the western US drylands and its possible correlation with the deep sea sediment record in the subpolar North Atlantic (Bond et al., 1999). LU = Layering Unit, WH = Wet event in Holocene, WP = Wet event in Pleistocene, LIA = Little Ice Age, and YD = Younger Dryas.

Rock Varnish Record of Latest Pleistocene Millennial-scale Wet Events, Western USA

Figure Caption    Rock varnish record of the latest Pleistocene millennial-scale wet events in the drylands of western USA and its possible correlation with GISP2 ice core record in Greenland (Grootes et al.,1993; Bond et al., 1999). The GISP2 time scale is from Meese et al. (1994) and Bender et al. (1994). The chronology of the Younger Dryas (H0) and H1-H2 is from Bond et al. (1999). Note that there are 3 wet phases (a, b, c) in WP0, 2 wet phases (a, b) in WP0+, and 4 wet phases (a, b, c, d) in WP1. LU= Layering Unit; WP = Wet event in Pleistocene; H = Heinrich event.
